I realise that, to millions of people, this will be no novelty. However, I have spent most of my life living in mild to warm areas of Australia where the temperature rarely even falls as low as freezing point, so it was amazing to me to be able to see these huge clumps of ice and know that the air temperature was so low that they weren't about to thaw.

Oh, these songs bring back memories. I didn't listen to music at home - wasn't allowed to listen to the radio much, didn't have TV - but at school during the weekly sewing classes (for girls only of course!), we were allowed to take it in turns to entertain the class by standing at the front of the class and singing. Naturally, it was mostly the popular (and confident) girls who did this. I was never in the "in" group and would have been way too shy anyway, so I just sat quietly at the back of the class stitching away at my embroidery, watching and listening as others got up and sang songs such as these and others:
